Pride Art Route

IN ART WE TRUST - AND THIS YEAR, WE'RE PROUD TO BE PART OF THE STORY
This summer, art’otel amsterdam proudly joins the Pride Art Route – a city-wide celebration of queer artist and expression. In our ever-iconic library & ARCA Bar, we’re spotlighting a duo exhibition that brings two singular voices into one bold conversation: painter and Rembrandt Prize-winner Thomas van Dun, and the playful, poetic world of Devon Ress. Available from July 17, until August 3rd.

THOMAS VAN DUN
Thomas van Dun is a multidisciplinary artist whose creative path began in music, studying composition at the Royal Conservatoire and working with orchestras such as the Concertgebouw and the Netherlands Philharmonic. In recent years, he has shifted his focus to visual art, using painting to explore themes of sensuality, melancholy, and self-discovery — often through the lens of queer experience.
His piece Sanctuarium, featured in this exhibition, won first prize in the television program Project Rembrandt in 2024. The work is a deeply personal altarpiece that reflects his journey of self-acceptance and living with HIV — a powerful and compassionate statement on vulnerability and inner strength.

DEVON RESS
Devon Ress brings a colourful and emotionally charged world to life through his drawings and mixed-media work. With a style that sits between painting and sketching, his figures — playful, distant, familiar — drift through fields of colour, sometimes pausing to party, pose, or simply exist.
Blending the surreal with the sincere, his series Monsters of Love and Friend of a Friend reflect on connection, queer intimacy, and the ever-changing spaces between strangers and lovers.
